The Backrooms of Sunset Place

Ahoy-hoy, weary traveler!

I’m really not sure how I got here, where I came from or where I’m going. All I know is I ended up at this mall, I can’t seem to get out, and I‘m running out of popcorn and soda vouchers at the movie theater!

I do not know anymore what year it is, what dimension I’m in, or whether I’m 17 or 71 years old… What I know is it all looks strangely familiar, yet I can’t seem to place it. It reminds me of memories from my youth, but different. Truth be told, I seem to have no real memories at all outside this place. I wander the corridors, which might as well be the corridors of my mind, where inevitably I end up facing the dark things, the scary stuff that keeps me up at night. There is no sleeping here, only searching.

Whenever I think I’ve reached the ending, I end up at the beginning and have to start all over again. And the weird thing is, I don’t think I’ve even scratched the surface… How do you measure infinity? Where is the exit on a closed loop?

Maybe you can help me. You see, I noticed that, despite my ignorance, I still have this device in my hands which never runs out of juice and lets me surf the World Wide Web as long as I’m broadcasting my conundrum here. That’s where you come in. I need you to study this broadcast and send a new one back to me to help me find my path.

It is kind of comfortable in this place, but I don’t want to exist here forever. I read somewhere about liminal space, purgatory, limbo, backrooms and the prisons we create in our own mind. I don’t know if that applies to me, but maybe you can help me figure it out. Here is my broadcast… Please don’t take an infinite amount of time getting back to me. But if you do, I’ll still be here, wandering.

I know I’ll see you here soon… maybe, forever and ever and ever??
